Deer mice are the most common rodents in urban environments. They find niches within our homes, as well as in empty fields and alleys. They constitute a considerable part of the diet of kit foxes. The group of mice I worked with for Nocturne live on a traffic island at the edge of a parking lot of a big box store, just across from a Taco Bell. The well-groomed bushes on the traffic island provide ample shelter and some seeds, which are augmented with edible cast-offs from Taco Bell and surrounding shops.
